I'm in love with God. Stricken and pining, humming my little song filled with 'saudade'. And the only image I have of my beloved is you, my neighbor, and my heart leaps when I see you because you remind me so much of my beloved. When I reason with you, my friends, it is because I love the Λογοσ, who reasoned day-in and day-out in temple, synagogue, and wilderness--and when we, together, think something rightly, we resemble Him all the more.

"Come now, let us reason together." "For, since every man is devoted to himself, there will never be true charity towards neighbors, unless where the love of God reigns; for it is a mercenary love* which the children of the world entertain for each other, because every one of them has regard to his own advantage. On the other hand, it is impossible for the love of God to reign without producing brotherly kindness among men." -John Calvin, Commentary on a Harmony of the Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Vol. III, Matthew 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-34; Luke 10:25-37

*“Car l’amour qu’ont les enfans de ce monde les uns envers les autres n’est point une vray amour, mais est une amour mercenaire.”
